Events & Fundraisers
We present programs and events several times a year and welcome the community to join us!
Women's History Month is celebrated typically in early spring. We sponsor local programs that highlight women who have contributed or are contributing to history. Well behaved women rarely make history!
In 2019 we will be co-sponsoring a free showing of the documentary RBG at the White Salmon Valley Community Library on March 22nd at 7 p.m. This film showcases the brilliant life and career of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, one of the few women to have been nominated and selected to serve on the US Supreme Court. At 85, she is still a Justice on the highest court of our land.
Our annual awards ceremony is held in March. This is where we honor the recipients of the Live Your Dream program, present the Woman of Distinction Award to a deserving woman from our community and provide young women from our local region with special Citizenship Awards and scholarships they can use for college.
Preventing domestic violence and human sexual trafficking is another strong focus of Soroptimists worldwide. SIMA partners with our local domestic violence and sexual assault prevention organizations to provide our community with information to help reduce incidents of intimate partner violence and sexual predation against girls and women.
Dream It, Be It is a multi-session career exploration program held during the early spring in White Salmon for young women about to enter high school.
Our yearly Holiday Greenery Sale is held in November. We sell beautiful wreaths and garlands to decorate your home or business. It is our club's main fundraiser and we are very appreciative of the continued generosity and support of our community!
Another popular fundraiser is the concession sales at Columbia High School's football games. From popcorn to nachos to the.best.ever.grilled burgers, look for us every fall under the stands at home high school games. Proceeds from the sales all go towards our programs and scholarships. Go Bruins!
Other fundraisers in the past have included the raffling off of a gorgeous dollhouse donated by a club member, a GoFundWe account (where members contribute funds directly to SI of Mount Adams) and Brags & Birthdays, where members toss a dollar into a basket at the beginning of every meeting and share something special. All funds raised go towards our programs and awards.
